Peeta
Peeta Mellark is one of the main characters and protagonists of The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins.[1] His name is pronounced the same way as "pita" Peeta is the male tribute from District 12, picked alongside Katniss Everdeen to participate in the 74th annual Hunger Games, a competition forcing children to kill each other on live television to remind the futuristic nation of Panem not to rebel against the controlling Capitol. Peeta and Katniss both win, though this is against the rules. He takes part in a rebellious act that changes Panem's future.
Josh Hutcherson will be playing Peeta.
Katniss
Katniss Everdeen is the main character of Suzanne Collins's The Hunger Games trilogy. Her name comes from an edible plant called katniss. Jennifer Lawrence is set to be Katniss in The Hunger Games film, directed by Gary Ross.
She and her family live in District 12, one of the poorer districts in the fictional world of Panem. Katniss' sister Prim is chosen for the Games but instead Katniss volunteers to take her place. She joins Peeta Mellark to be District 12's tributes for the 74th annual Hunger Games, a gruesome competition. With her hunting and archery skills, she becomes a contender, and sets off a rebellion when she and Peeta both live, though against the rules of the Games. She becomes known as "The Girl on Fire." She is also the representative for the rebellion and is known in that position as "The Mockingjay".
Gale
Gale Hawthorne is two years older than the main protagonist, Katniss Everdeen. His father was killed in the mine explosion that also killed Katniss's father, leaving his mother, Hazelle, a widow. He first saw Katniss at the ceremony after the deaths of their fathers, where they were awarded the Medal of Valor for being the oldest children of the deceased coal miners. He and Katniss met again in the forest later when she was twelve and he was fourteen, creating a friendship of hunting together to provide for their families. Gale has three younger siblings: Rory, (brother) Vick, (brother) and Posy (sister).
